Healing Histories

Working with Threshold UK, I was given access to research material about Lincoln Lunatic Asylumn and asked to respond with creative written work. Through an act of extraction I took all of the text from the research we were given and lifted specific words that spoke of smaller stories. This interaction developed into an active movement of words and letters across the page. Taking the form of almost musical notation.

The work became a spoken word piece which I performed at the close of the evening and I supported all of this with some zines I created from the text I had crafted. These were all handed out as takeaways at the end of the event.

It was a really great experience and has opened new pathways for creating. An ongoing reduction and expansion, a movement of, a sense of play. It speaks to my interest in call and response, interacting with archives and searching for stories within stories, all buried deeper within the text.
